Our motto

We Serve

Lions are ordinary people from all walks of life who enjoy getting together and doing good things. We're kind and generous people who want to help – that's why we work on projects to improve our communities and protect the environment. We get enormous satisfaction knowing that what we do does make a difference, and we enjoy friendship and fun while doing it.

Whenever Lions club members get together, problems get smaller and communities get better. We help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. Lions Clubs New Zealand is part of a global organisation with 1.4 million members in 208 countries and geographic regions. With that much manpower, it's no wonder Lions achieve extraordinary things every day.

What we do

Supporting and strengthening the Manawatū

As a club we're proud of the many and varied projects we've undertaken. Here are some from recent years.

Fundraising projects

  • Pivotal foundation partner with the Manawatū Cancer Society in delivering Relay for Life, from its inception
  • Principal Lions coordination, planning and delivery role for the annual Foodbank Appeal
  • Spearheading Lions fundraising nationally for Wildbase Recovery, together with Rotary clubs
  • Delivering the bi-annual Big Rig Day with the Child Cancer Foundation
  • Running the annual Lions Market Day in The Square, giving many local charities the chance to boost their funds

Funding we've provided directly

  • $10,000 towards a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy operation in the USA for a local resident
  • A mobility van for a local family with children with disabilities
  • An eye operation for a local resident who would otherwise have become blind, with no government support available
  • A vest for a local child with respiratory issues
  • Disaster relief donations for New Zealand and around the world
  • Annual support of Camp Quality
