HEADS UP FOR KIDS
Lions Clubs NZ Heads Up for Kids project provides a helping hand for young people to engage in an experience or activity that will enable them to live their dream, establish life goals and reach their full potential within their chosen field.
Launched in 2010, heads Up for Kids is a unique collection which asks NZers to dig out and donate old pre-decimal NZ currency, as well as all foreign money.
The obsolete cash is then redeemed for NZ dollars and used to fund education programs for young New Zealanders who would otherwise not get the opportunity.
Many young people have already benefited from Heads Up for Kids, receiving scholarships to organisations such as Spirit of Adventure and Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centres.
To date, Lions NZ have collected over 28.8 tonnes of coins and thousands of banknotes (equivalent weight of 4 elephants, 460 cattle or 6450 cats!) – just as a matter of interest!
Our contribution when we initially sent away 15kg of coins a year or so ago amounted to a little over $1000 – so I’d like to get this up and running again.
So briefly, I will bring one of these collection buckets in for the next few of our Lions meetings.

Roger Johnstone for Middle Districts Lions Club
